When iPad Met Lawnmower

It's 7:30 AM. You set your iPad on the hood of the car while getting your coffee and keys situated. As you exit the neighborhood, you wave to the landscaping crew before heading to the office. Upon arrival, you grab your travel mug and tablet before heading inside, but wait.. where is the iPad?

Yup.. you left it on the hood of the car. Did it stay put all the way to the office? Of course not - it rolled off into the grass as you turned out of the driveway. Then you remember your friend on the lawnmower, and that's when things really get interesting.

Miraculously, it knocked off the touchscreen without damaging anything else.

This iPad 4 came in just as you see it - the top layer of glass containing the touchscreen had been destroyed, but somehow the display and internals were still intact. Unsure whether it would even power on, we set to work. Once we were able to determine it was indeed still alive, our customer gave us the All-Clear to rebuild the iPad in a whole new housing.

This was a several hour process due to the amount of tiny parts, brackets, and ribbon cables running throughout the device. Nothing we weren't expecting, it's just a tedious job with ample opportunity to damage fragile internal parts. Good news though, after everything was moved to the new housing all we had to do was install a new touchscreen and Viola! We ran it through an extended post-repair QC test to verify everything was operational, and this iPad was back in its owner's hands the following day.

Even a commercial lawnmower couldn't stop Chris from shouting his catchphrase, like short-order cook in a 1950's diner:

"Who ordered the new iPad?"
